Fishing expedition launched after tv program

11 July 20 officers carried out two simultaneous raids on homes in Dorset and Hampshire in search of half a dozen hens.

These fugitives were said to have been rescued five months earlier from the waste pits below a battery farm in Hampshire and filmed on Dispatches Mad About Animals.

Keith Mann and Martin Masterman Lister were led away in handcuffs at 7.00am and homes searched. No hens were found but several computers, cameras, mobile phones and personal papers were taken.

The bizarre thing about this apart from the fact there is apparently no serious crime for these officers to investigate is that there was never any crime reported by anyone, there are no missing hens!

Following the programme screening the police contacted a notorious local poultry farmer to ask if he had been burgled. Not that he was aware. What about stolen property, anything missing? Not that he was aware. No deterrent for the brave men and women of Hampshire Constabulary ever desperate to ensure animal abuse thrives on their patch.

Both men have been bailed till September.
